When mature, the male develops a rich orange colouration over the lower front half of the body, whilst the dorsal fin becomes longer and more pointed than that of the female.
When fully grown the male may occasionally chase other fish, but rarely it does any harm to them.
The "feelers" are frequently used as sensory aids at feeding time, when approaching other fish and to examine new items placed in the aquarium.
